Asimov Reading Response

What similarities does this piece have with 1984? Differences? What might George Orwell say to Isaac Asimov if there were to have dinner together? On what issues would they agree? Disagree? Why?

"Robot Dreams" by Issac Asimov is similar to GeorgeOrwell's 1984 in that it involves the complete servitude of certain people. LVX-1, also called Elvex, is destroyed for having forbidden dreams. This control over robots is similar to the Thought Police used on the human population of Oceania in 1984. Unlike in 1984, however, creative thought is in "Robot Dreams" obviously still permitted, though it is discouraged as an individual activity.

Orwell and Asimov would probably agree that individual freedoms are imoprtant. However, while Orwell asserts that we are in danger of destroying our own freedoms, Asimov argues that we would more likely eliminate the rights of others, namely the robots.
